Safety · Clarity · Consistency
Why English?
English is not simply a preference — it is the operational and safety language of every cruise line we partner with, and the language through which your safety on board depends.
The Primary Language of Our Partners
Every cruise line and operator we work with — AmaWaterways, Phoenix Reisen (German) , Riverside Luxury Cruises, Swan Hellenic, Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Silversea, and Four Seasons Yachts — uses English as their primary operational language. All booking confirmations, itinerary documents, shore excursion briefings, onboard programmes, and official correspondence are issued in English. Aligning with this standard ensures that every document you receive from us matches exactly what the ship's crew and management team will reference.
Safety & Emergency Announcements
International maritime and river cruise regulations require that safety-critical communications — including muster drills, emergency procedures, and evacuation instructions — are delivered in English as the universal maritime language. These announcements are broadcast through the ship's PA (Passenger Announcement) system. It is essential that every traveller we place on board can clearly understand these messages. By ensuring our guests are comfortable with English before departure, we are not simply following a preference — we are fulfilling a duty of care.
PA System — Passenger Announcements
The PA system is the ship's primary channel for real-time communication with all passengers simultaneously. Announcements might cover daily schedules, port arrival and departure times, weather updates, dining service changes, and — most critically — any safety or emergency instructions. On international voyages carrying guests from dozens of countries, English is the single shared language that the crew can rely on to reach every passenger. Understanding these announcements is not optional — it is a fundamental part of travelling safely.
Consistency Across Your Entire Journey
From your first enquiry with our travel specialists, through your booking confirmation, pre-departure documentation, onboard daily programmes, and shore excursion guides — every touchpoint of your journey is documented in English. This consistency eliminates the risk of misunderstanding critical details such as embarkation times, included meals, dress codes, and port schedules. Our goal is that you arrive on board fully informed, confident, and ready to enjoy every moment.
Your safety is our first priority
If you have any concerns about language accessibility on board, our travel specialists are happy to discuss the specific arrangements available on your chosen voyage before you book. We want every traveller to feel fully prepared and confident from the moment they step on board.
